Referral programme terms

The rules of the referral programme — who can earn, when a reward is actually earned, and what happens if the company you referred leaves or asks for their money back.

1. What the programme is

You share your referral link with a company that is not already an nthparty customer, however you choose to. If they open a paid account from it, they get a discount on their first invoice and you earn credit on yours. We never contact the company on your behalf — nthparty sends no email to anyone you refer, and we do not ask you for their address. These terms form part of the terms of service.

2. What each side gets

Both amounts are set against the plan the referred company actually buys, never against yours. At today's prices

We can change these amounts. A change applies to referrals made after it is published, never retrospectively — a referral already in flight is settled on the figures that applied when it was made.

3. Credit, and what it is not

Credit is money on your nthparty account. It comes off your next invoice automatically. There is nothing to redeem and no code to enter. It is not a change to your plan, and your plan is untouched by it.

Credit cannot be exchanged for cash, cannot be transferred to another account or another company, and is not paid out if you cancel. It expires twelve months after it is issued. Where you hold credit from more than one referral, the oldest is spent first.

4. Who can earn

Any account on a paid plan that has not been excluded under section 6. Free accounts can share a link and can be credited from the month they start paying. Only the account owner can see the referrals screen or the credit, because both are questions about the bill.

5. When a reward is earned

A reward is earned once the company you referred has made their second successful payment. On annual billing it is earned thirty days after their first invoice clears. Until then it shows on your referrals screen as pending, and it is not money you hold.

The delay is deliberate. It is what keeps the programme from paying for accounts that sign up and cancel, and it is why the reward can be as large as it is.

6. Limits and what we refuse

A company can be referred once, by one referrer, ever. The first attribution wins, and it is recorded when they sign up.

There is no limit on how many companies you can refer or how much credit you can earn. There is a practical one worth understanding — credit only ever reduces your own invoices and expires after twelve months, so if you earn more in a year than you are billed, the excess will lapse rather than accumulate indefinitely.

We do not pay for referring yourself. That includes a second account you control, an account held by the same person, and an account on your own email domain — colleagues belong on your members list, not here. We may stop an account earning if we reasonably believe the programme is being gamed, and we will tell you when we do. Your existing history stays visible and credit already issued is not affected.

7. Clawback

If the company you referred is refunded, charges back, or cancels before the reward is earned, the reward is cancelled.

If the reward had already been issued and the payment behind it is later reversed, we reverse the credit as well. We reverse the full amount even where part of it has already been applied to an invoice, which can leave a balance owing on your account. We will tell you when this happens and why, and if the reversal was our error we will put it back.

8. Tax

Credit reduces the amount you are invoiced, so it is a discount rather than income. Whether it has any consequence for you is a question for your own accountant, and not one we can answer.

9. Changing or ending the programme

We can change or end the programme at any time. Rewards already earned are honoured on the terms that applied when they were earned. Rewards still pending when the programme ends will be settled if the referred company reaches the point in section 5 within the following ninety days, and lapse after that. If we end the programme we will say so on the referrals screen and email account owners holding pending rewards before it stops.
